Description

The U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), intends to issue a sole-source contract modification using the statutory authority 41 USC 3304(a)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 6.302-1 entitled “Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements,” to Nuclear Fuel Services. Inc. (NFS) of 1205 Banner Hill Rd, Erwin, TN, 37650-9318, to provide Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) purification and conversion services. NFS has been identified as the only responsible source because it is the only known Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)-licensed Category 1 commercial facility with the capability to process HEU.





To support its full range of mission needs, the NNSA’s Office of Secondary Stage Production Modernization (NA-195) sought an industry partner to provide Uranium purification capabilities. The purification and conversion capabilities provided by the Contractor shall allow for HEU oxide to be purified and converted to a safe metal form that meets government specification.
