Description

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)/SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE BEING RELEASED PURSUANT TO FEDERAL ACQUISITION REGULATION (FAR) PART 10: MARKET RESEARCH.





This RFI is issued solely for informational, market research, and planning purposes only. It does not constitute an Invitation for Bid (IFB), Request for Quote (RFQ), or Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue an RFQ/IFB/RFP in the future. No solicitation document exists at this time.





Issuance of this notice does not constitute any obligation on the part of the Government and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, implied or otherwise, to issue a solicitation or award a contract. In addition, respondents are advised that the United States Government is under no obligation to pay for any information or administrative cost incurred in response to this RFI. At this time, proprietary information is not being requested, and respondents shall refrain from providing proprietary information in response to this RFI. The specifications for this requirement will only be available upon solicitation issuance.





PURPOSE:



The purpose of this project is to design, fabricate, test and install one (1) bridge crane rotor lifting beam hook. This will include the design and manufacturing of the crane hook and other components necessary by the contractor's design, hook proof testing, installation of the new hook on the rotor lifting beam assembly, load testing and certification, non-destructive examination (NDE) of the hook and lifting beam assembly, re-painting of lifting beam sections where paint is stripped for NDE and final delivery of the assembled lifting beam.

SCOPE:



The major items of work consist of the following activities:



1. Design of new lifting beam hook and shank nut including FEA and supporting calculations.



2. Manufacturing of new lifting beam hook and other discretionary components that are required by the contractor's design e.g. hook thrust bearing, trunnion, etc.



3. Proof testing of the new rotor lifting beam hook and NDE.



4. Installation of the new hook on the rotor lifting beam assembly.



5. Load testing and certification of the rotor lifting beam assembly.



6. NDE of the new hook, paint stripping of 10% welds on the lifting beam, NDE of lifting beam, re-painting of lifting beam spots.



7. Provide As-built drawings of the hook and also the rotor lifting beam assembly.





DESCRIPTION:



The Old Hickory powerhouse is located on the Cumberland River in Tennessee,



northeast of Nashville. There are four main turbine generating units at the



Old Hickory Powerhouse. Old Hickory Lock and Dam is located in



Hendersonville, Tennessee.





GENERAL INFORMATION:



The proposed project will be a Firm Fixed Price contract.



North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) Code applicable to this acquisition is 332111 - Iron and Steel Forging.





REQUESTED INFORMATION:



Respondents interested in providing a response to this Sources Sought should submit information which clearly describes the following: Only contractors capable of supplying this type of procurement should respond to this survey.

  6. Do you intend to sub-contract? If so, what percentage of the work will be sub-contracted? Will the sub-contracted business be a small business?

  7. Provide three examples of forged crane hooks, greater than or equal to 100 tons capacity, that have been manufactured by the prospective hook manufacturer. Examples must have been completed within the past ten (10) years.

  8. Provide three examples of lifting beams, greater than or equal to 100 tons capacity, that have been modified by the prospective below-the-hook device modification and repair contractor. Examples must have been completed within the past ten (10) years.
